Why does the Catholic Church consider contraception and abortion immoral?

I would argue that this question is one of the most controversial questions of the series. The answers and ideas contained in this question affect almost everyone. So, what is contraception? How does it work? Why is it a problem? What is abortion? Why is this an issue? Finally why is there a divide on this issue in our political climate?
